Earlier this month we talked about the importance of investing in your marketing – because if you “go cheap” with your marketing, you’ll attract cheap clients as well.

That raises two important questions.

1) Do you “have to” have an expensive website in order to win high-paying clients?

2) Is an expensive website a “guarantee” that you’ll win high-paying clients?

The answer to both questions is no. But there are some important things you need to know.

First, you don’t “have to” have an expensive website. I’ve seen multi-million dollar landscaping companies win huge projects with a simple, one-page website that’s not even mobile friendly.

But it’s important to understand that those companies have already established their reputation and are living off referrals at this point.

They don’t need a cutting-edge website to bring in business – but if you’re newer to the game, or if you don’t yet have a strong reputation, you probably do. Because you’re not able to live off your referral network yet.

More to the point, even well-established businesses are taking a huge gamble by ignoring their online presence. If you have a “big player” in your market and they don’t have an impressive website and digital presence, that offers YOU a huge opportunity to sneak up on them!

A Fancy Website Offers No Guarantees

A fancy new website isn’t a guarantee that you’ll win high-paying clients, but it is a huge tool that will help you attract them. Once your website is up, it’s important to create marketing systems to drive potential clients to your site – such as Google or Facebook Ads. Even the people you meet face-to-face are going to be more likely to hire you – because they’ll often visit your website. So you want to make sure it’s impressive.

Think Of Your Marketing As An Investment

I sometimes talk to landscapers who are struggling to find the money for a new website. They think that it might be better to just put in the legwork and go door-to-door looking for new clients.

Trust me, I understand. But it’s important that you think about the value of your time!

It might be difficult to find $2,000 – $4,000 for a new website. But would you really prefer spending two hours per day knocking on doors, five days per week, for years and years to come?

You have to view your marketing as an investment. An investment in yourself, in your business, in your future. A top-quality website that positions you as a leader in your market is a critical part of your marketing strategy. It’s worth the investment!
